Croquet at Heritage

CROQUET AT HERITAGE
Play for Heritage Croquet Club Members

Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 12 – September 11, 2008
1 – 3 pm
Parade Field

Last year, members of Heritage Museums & Gardens in cooperation with the Education & Public Programs Department developed a new way to enjoy the museums grounds – through the growing sport of croquet! Thus, the Heritage Croquet Club was established boasting 75 members and at least 25 active players on any given day last summer.  Both Golf and American Croquet were played on the pristine lawns of the Parade Field.

Croquet is a fun sport that combines the skills of chess and billiards on a large lawn.  A game is played over a 75-minute span, but can be played for less time, using four ball sets and four players.  The object of croquet is to score the most wickets (metal ‘hoops’ which are set into the ground) by hitting the ball with a mallet. "It is as much of a mental game as it is a physical game. It is really about finesse," explained Betty Anne Brine experienced player and HCC founder.  “The Heritage Croquet Club brings a social sport to the community that can be played by all ages.  It really brings people together”!

Join the Heritage Croquet Club this season to learn the basics of the game or hone your existing skills.   Enrollment is open to all members of Heritage Museums & Gardens. Play will be held each Tuesday and Thursday from 1-3pm beginning, Thursday, June
12 and will conclude on Thursday, September 11. Equipment is available but limited so bring your ‘lucky mallet’ and join us for Croquet in the Gardens!

Fees: $50.00 per individual or $75.00 per couple.
Heritage Museums & Gardens membership will also be required.
