
A Full Day Yoga and Mindfulness Retreat: Cultivating Nature from Within

Save the date for a full day Yoga and Mindfulness Retreat. For the second year, Heritage Museums & Gardens and the Barnstable Land Trust will co-produce this program intended to promote healthy living. This one-day retreat will be led by a group of established yoga and meditation professionals including Diane Kovanda of Yoga Cape Cod, Olivia Miller of OHMWorks, Adam Liss of Cape Stress Reduction, Luanne Persson of Avalon Yoga Studios and Maureen Hammett of The Moving Meditation. Participants will enjoy a variety of workshops for all levels of practice and abilities.
Registration fee includes a vegetarian lunch. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or towel. Event proceeds will benefit both organizations and their missions to preserve important natural areas for the enjoyment of present and future generations. Come and discover how cultivating inner peace can expand our connection to nature and others.

Laugher Yoga on the Carousel - This unique workshop will put the “merry” back in “merry-go-round!” Be a kid again as we laugh, breathe and practice “carousel yoga” on Heritage’s antique carousel.
10:45-12noon (Choose one)
Mediation 101 - You do not have to sit and meditate for an hour each day to gain the amazing benefits of meditation: better focus, creativity, alertness, better sleep, stronger immune system, and centering oneself in the midst of a busy day. Adam will share a simple and practical approach to meditation that anybody can learn here and do anywhere.
Yoga for Every Body - This class will dispel myths about yoga, introduce a classical yoga flow while incorporating various modalities of how yoga can activate your internal healing process, restore your energy, and enhance your overall mental and physical well-being! Students are strongly encouraged to bring a mat, blanket, blocks and a strap, if possible, as variations, both beginner and advanced will be demonstrated.

Mindfulness, Stress & Weight Reduction - This is an introduction to retraining your brain and your body, allowing you to relax, pay attention, and get healthy. Stress is implicated in all aspects of our health: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, proven to reduce stress, helps to develop skills enabling us to respond more consciously and deliberately to the people and situations that comprise our lives. Combine this with new healthy habits of nourishing ourselves with food and fun, and we can begin to live our lives with newfound direction, optimism and energy. We will explore mindfulness, meditation, and new ways of looking at our diet and how we eat in this workshop with Adam.
Energy Balancing - Our energy centers (known in Eastern traditions as chakras) play an essential role in our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is through these centers that life energy is received, processed and transmitted. Life experiences – such as illness, trauma, stress – may cause blockages, leading to imbalances, dis-ease, and unhealthy patterns of behaviors, actions and reactions. Energy balancing utilizes calming breathing techniques and simple stretching exercises to help rebalance our energy fields, promoting health, vitality and harmony.

Yoga - This class will focus on breath work, proper body alignment and reaching the connective tissues that can cause so many limits to our daily range of motion. ALL levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. Remember, yoga is to undo, not out do. A Downward Dog a day, keeps the blues away !!!
