Outdoor Family Adventures ! Outdoor Family Adventure
Friday, May 16
6pm to 8pm
(rain date May 17th)

Learn about early American exploration by discovering it first-hand! Families will become a team of explorers, preparing for a journey into the ‘unknown lands of Heritage.’ First, each family will construct a handmade compass and design a team hat for everyone to use during the trek into the wilderness.

After a brief instruction on basic orienteering, family teams will head out on the grounds to begin their trail blazing adventure! By following clues, codes, maps, and trail markings, families can discover hidden treasures throughout the property as well as get to know some unique trees and plants in the garden collections.

Before returning to civilization, families will celebrate their achievements around a roaring campfire. Everyone will enjoy a special treat and listen to storyteller Sarah Jacobson weave legends and fables from early explorers in our past and what they saw in the ‘new world.’ Stories include “The Mermaid and the Whale,” a tale involving Cape Cod history and a legend of a mermaid and whale living in Shawme Pond, which can be seen from our campfire!

Don’t miss your chance to discover history, nature, map reading, and storytelling during this journey into the hidden world around us that the whole family can enjoy!
