Hidden Hollow: A Nature Discovery Center
With a strong commitment to children and environmental education, Heritage staff has been working dilegently to create a new space for the summer of 2010 called Hidden Hollow: A Nature Discovery Center. Hidden Hollow, a two-acre site, in a 25-foot glacier formed hollow, focuses on providing meaningful experiences for all ages that promotes appreciation for the natural world through exploration, discovery and free-choice learning. The framework for Hidden Hollow is based on Nature Explore Classroom (NEC), a nationally recognized movement guided by the work of Arbor Day Farms and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation.
The Hidden Hollow team is dedicated to being at the forefront of environmental and nature education. Our team is actively involved in developing curriculum, presenting workshops, sharing our vision with local stakeholders, and collaborating with local early educators and collegial organizations. Devoted to spreading our nature message to all of Southeastern MA and Cape Cod, we have begun a 3-year plan that involves teacher trainings, institutes, forums, internships, and collaborations with local schools, museums and arboretums. Our deepest commitment is to providing opportunities to connect children to the wonders of the natural world.
The Hidden Hollow team seeks creative and innovative interns to support, develop and teach educational programming in a newly created outdoor classroom space.
